I could watch Jake Blauvelt ride all day. His style, fluidness and power ups the stoke ante by 200. Check out the trailer for his two year project, “Naturally” on the Transworld Snowboarding site. If it doesn’t get you hyped to ride…I feel sorry for your sad state.
While those of us non-winter chasers are stuck with the summertime blues, someone at ESPN decided to throw another Real Snow contest to prelude this year’s Summer XGames. I’m not going to go all contrarian here. I mean, I’m like a junkie and they provided me my fix.
But like all “contests” of this nature, the more deserving edits usually don’t get the love. Take for instance Fredi Kalbermatten’s edit. Unfortunately, he was up against Pat Moore, who has pledged to donate the prize money toward the medical bills that friend and Exit Real World Manager, Kevin Nimick has stacked up in his fight against testicular cancer (side note…his story is a tale of how screwed up our healthcare system is). Pat also plans to donate money toward a Cancer Foundation of Kevin’s choice. I mean, how can you go against that?
So in honor of Frederik’s killer edit (and Pat’s killer humanity), I had to post it here…enjoy.
Quote of the Day:
“Something that Orwell never figured out in 1984 is that people would embrace the idea of Big Brother if there’s a game attached to it, or if it’s convenient. You buy a monitor at Best Buy that has a little camera inside that allows you to make Skype calls, and you don’t realize what else is behind that camera. As long as you can present that kind of technology with a fun app, it is no longer the omnipotent HAL with a red glowing eye – it’s a little black dot at the top of your computer that allows you to talk to your friends all over the world. But that comes at a price. You as an individual have to make a choice: Do you want to use this technology and what comes with it, or do you want to move out to a cabin in the woods and start growing vegetables?”
-David Marconi, “Enemy Of The State” Screenwriter
Well the move is done and “goodbyes” to Brooklyn have been said. However, my mountain view isn’t doing anything the help curb summer snowboarding blues…and this edit is simply salt in the wound.
Oh well…enjoy and talk to you next week.
